It’s 50 degrees in February.
The weather is changing.
Not a four perfectly delineated seasons
kind of change.
Where you know it’s safe to put away
the heavy winter coat
and bring the summer clothes
front and center closet.
It’s hard to explain.
The Morning News meteorologist was just saying,
“This time, in 1980,
We had over 8 inches of snow!”
Unseasonably mild.
They say the globe is overheating.
The sun is always hot.
Like my Jordan 5s
Kicked up on the dash of my car,
Basking in the sunlight.
I can see the creases of “wear and tear”
Forming irreversible trenches.
I rock these often
Comfortable with the worn look.
Reminds me of my own skin.
Will they say of my aging face,
“You’re showing signs of wear and tear”
Or
“Man, you look good for your age!”
Either way,
I think I’m okay with the change.
And by the time my skin no longer belies my age
I’ll prolly still rock these same 5s
Out of habit.
A youngblood will exclaim,
“Ay, them retros is heat!”
And I’ll cooly respond,
“Oh, these. They OGs.
I been had these.”
